World Health Day: why padel is (almost) the perfect sport to take care of yourself

Día Mundial de la Salud: por qué el pádel es (casi) el deporte perfecto para cuidarte

Today, April 7th, is World Health Day, and if there is one thing worth remembering, it is this: you don't need to do anything crazy to be better. What really works is moving consistently and enjoying it.

And that is where padel has a huge advantage: it’s addictive. Because it’s social, fun, and you can adapt it to your level.

1) Padel gives you health “without you noticing”

In a normal match, you do:

  • short walks,

  • changes of pace,

  • turns,

  • arm and leg coordination,

  • and quick decisions.

All of that adds up to:

  • improving your endurance,

  • moving better in your daily life,

  • and staying active without feeling like you are “working out”.

2) Heart and energy: the most obvious effect

By playing 2–3 times a week, many people notice:

  • more energy,

  • better sleep,

  • better mood,

  • and more “stamina” in daily life.

It’s not magic: it’s the body responding when you give it regular movement.

3) Mind and stress: the benefit no one buys… but everyone appreciates

Padel is a mental reset:

  • you focus on the ball,

  • you laugh,

  • you disconnect from your phone,

  • and you leave with a clearer head.

In a world where we are always rushing, that is worth gold.

4) And what about your joints? Play smart (and your body will thank you)

Padel can be very healthy… if you play it wisely.

3 simple rules:

  1. Warm up for 5–8 minutes (even if it’s light).

  2. Don’t play the “hero” if you’re feeling worn out: lower the intensity and prioritize control.

  3. Take care of your grip and comfort: when the racket slips, you squeeze harder… and your arm feels it.

5) Your health is also in your gear (yes, really)

You don’t need the most expensive racket to take care of your body, but it is worth avoiding common mistakes:

  • Overgrip in good condition: improves grip and reduces tension in the hand/forearm.

  • Racket protector: extends the life of the racket (and saves you from frustration due to dings).

  • Grip spray (if you sweat): a useful accessory on hot days or for long matches.

Small details, big difference.

And to celebrate this World Health Day, I’ll leave you with a simple padel routine as a healthy habit:

  • 2 matches per week
  • short warm-up
  • comfortable gear and, above all… enjoy it

Because if you enjoy it, you’ll stick with it. And if you stick with it, it changes you.
